A merry Christmas

We’re driving back home now after a fun whirlwind of a visit. We spent 2 nights with B’s folks, 1 with his sister, and the boys and I stayed with my folks just over a week. Family Christmases were fun and overwhelming, respectively. I would have liked to have lingered for more visiting and shopping, but there is work to do at home…and it will be nice to sleep in my own old bed.

Ending the Semester

Just waiting for office hours to end so I can treat myself to lunch. Also trying to blog on my phone keypad…a little slow.

Big Changes

Okay…here goes.  Baby came–a healthy, happy 8 lb. 11 oz whopper!  I taught my online course and designed the second, then had to leave that university because we’ve moved 5 hours closer to everything.  Tomorrow I start three face-to-face public speaking classes, which should be interesting.  AND we bought a house and are in the process of moving in.  (I’m typing from a camp chair in my living room.)

That’s the brief report.  I hope to have more time to update the blog as my life calms down a bit.  Seems I chose a good name for it…

Two down!

It’s official–I’ve posted grades for one of my courses that I’m teaching at the local university, and I’ve finished all my grading at the other university.  DONE!  I like the sound of that word…

I’m still working on two online classes.  One was supposed to be canceled, but somehow it’s still in my list and students are already turning things in.  So I guess it’s not canceled, after all.  Still, it’s a smallish class, and it shouldn’t be too bad.  And anyway, the other one will end by the end of the month, leaving me with a very minor commitment.

I also have an opportunity to design my own online course for the local university, which is going to be great fun!

Down to four weeks till the due date.  Wonder if this baby will come early or late…

Playing Catch-up

It has been a long while since I’ve posted to this blog!  The first quarter of 2008 has been eventful, to say the least.  The Chinese have a curse:  May you live in interesting times.  Sometimes I feel like I am!

But things seem to be improving now.  Family issues are settling down and we have some good job prospects.  Baby seems healthy and the F-man is growing and happy.  My folks visited this past week while hubby was out of town, which was much fun.  I think F would have gladly stayed with Papa and Danda instead of me!  So it made for a fun visit and a nice holiday for me.

Now I’m trying to play catch-up with all the remaining work for this semester.  Starting to feel the “before baby comes I have to do X” crunch–but obviously not enough to ditch the blogging and do real work.  Guess I should do that now.

Thinking

Not much new in the way of good news.  The hubby has a phone interview coming up with one job prospect.  Maybe this means more are coming.

About to go teach–really enjoying it so far, especially now that I have books!

Back from holidays

It’s been a while now, but we’re finally back and getting into a routine.  Some updates:

  • The little guy is almost two!  And you can tell.  He’s exerting his will and is beginning to use whole sentences.  His vocabulary is enormous–last night he ate “boobabies” (blueberries) and informed me that “Grandma make noonels” (his great-grandma made noodles for Christmas dinner, and he ate about three bowls, plus mashed potatoes!).
  • I’m job searching and beginning to get antsy.  Guessing that search committees won’t get started for another week or two (probably two).
  • I’m scheduled to teach a graduate class at the local university–if it makes.  Will also continue to grade online for a different university and may get to pick up a class or two at a third.
  • We’re expecting a second little one in early June!  I think I’m beginning to “nest”; on the other hand, I usually do big cleaning projects between semesters, so who knows.  Thanks to one reader for the maternity duds!

Those are the big news items.  Sorry for the brief posting…I have more stuff to take care of during naptime.  :)

Happy Thanksgiving

Hope all readers enjoyed a weekend of rest, family and friends, and thankfulness. We sure did! We visited B’s family. The little guy played with puppies and cats, grandparents, and aunt and uncle. Had a really nice time. And on the way back, it snowed! That’s the first time in my life I’ve seen snow in November. F, however, was underwhelmed. I tried to get him to make a snowman, but he balked and wanted to play with the car and with Dad’s old cell phone. Oh, well…maybe magic will hit next year. :)

On Connection

Had a fun visit with some friends from college this weekend. They flew out and we spent most of the weekend catching up and just hanging out. I felt years younger talking with them–hadn’t seen them in nearly 3 years, but we reconnected instantly. Suddenly I felt like someone I hadn’t been in a long time.

Isn’t it funny how the people you know can connect you with the people you’ve been? I’m not talking about weird reincarnation stuff :) but about how we change over time. Wish I could explain it better.
